CCTV shows man fleeing scene after mowing down woman

Police have released footage of a man fleeing the scene after he mowed down a woman walking her four-day-old baby in a pram, leaving her fighting for her life. 

The 28-year-old woman was run over as she crossed the A34 Walsall Road in Great Barr, Birmingham around 6pm on Saturday.

A manhunt is now underway for the driver of the Mazda MPS Aero Sports who ploughed into the woman and left her in a critical condition, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The clip, taken from the security cameras of nearby houses, was released by West Midlands Police in the hope someone will recognise the driver.

The baby was checked over by medics and kept in hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the car remains at large, having fled the scene on foot, police said.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: ‘This investigation is in its early stages and we are trying to establish exactly what happened.

‘I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t yet spoken to police to make contact.
