As the most anticipated celestial event of a lifetime gets underway, celebrities have flocked to social media sharing photos of their eclipse eye-wear.

Oregon has caught its first glimpse of the eclipse, as it begins to sweep across the US on Monday just after 9am PDT.

The moon is slowly making its way across the sun, where it will block it completely and then travel from coast to coast over the next 90 minutes. The eclipse will end just before 3pm EDT in South Carolina.

Millions of Americans are expected to be able to view the eclipse from 14 states, as thousands have traveled to Oregon to be the first to witness the rare event.
