Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain has died of a suicide aged 61

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain has committed suicide at the age of 61, CNN confirmed Friday.  

The celebrity chef was the host of the network’s travel food show, Parts Unknown, and was filming an upcoming episode France when he was found dead Friday morning. 

Bourdain’s close friend Eric Ripert, owner of New York City’s famed Le Bernardin restaurant, found him unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

‘It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,’ the network said in a statement Friday morning. 

‘His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.’

Bourdain rose to fame in 2000, when he published his memoir Kitchen Confidential, which detailed his struggles with drug abuse. 

He then became a household name by hosting such shows as A Cook’s Tour and No Reservations. 

Bourdain was married twice, and leaves behind a Ariane, born in 2007. Most recently he was dating actress Asia Argento.
