Locked-down Australians with a love for fine dining can get a taste of a Michelin star restaurant at home by ordering a burger created by Heston Blumenthal for Grill’d.

As part of the national launch of Fable’s plant-based burger range onto its menus, Grill’d is selling two ‘mushroom meat’ burgers developed by the celebrity chef famed for his experimental multi-sensory dishes served in a cloud of smoke.

The British culinary star, 55, has created a $14.50 ‘Fable Spicy Cheeseburger’ available to order for pick-up and delivery from August 3, and a limited-edition ‘Heston Fable Burger’ sold exclusively in Grill’d restaurants around the country.

The collaboration is the first time Blumenthal’s burgers have been served outside his own award-winning restaurants, but with just 4,000 ‘Heston’ burgers to be served Australia-wide, you’d better be quick if you want to try one.

Diners can book online to experience the ‘Heston Fable Burger’ at select Grill’d restaurants, with sessions running from Sunday, August 8 until Sunday, August 22.

For $35 per person, customers can enjoy the limited-edition burger served under a smoke-filled cloche along with a side of Grill’d chips, a tub of white miso mayonnaise and a choice of premium white or red wine, local beer or a non-alcoholic drink.

The offer will be available from Grill’d outlets in Windsor and Hawthorn, VIC, Wintergarten and Carindale, Queensland, and Scarborough in WA.

New South Wales residents and others in lockdown can register their interest to enjoy the burger when Covid restrictions are eased.

Blumenthal described his namesake burger as ‘the star of the show’ with a rich mushroom flavour that tastes exactly like slow-cooked meat, topped with a spicy plum hoisin sauce, Japanese slaw and lightly grilled tofu.

Inspired by Peking duck pancakes, the exclusive burger is an evolution of what is already on the menu at the chef’s very own restaurant, The Perfectionists’ Café in London.

‘It has all of the satisfying things that you would expect from a burger but there’s no meat in it. Mouth-watering, 100 percent natural, satisfying and just delicious,’ Mr Blumenthal said.

Blumenthal, who is he owner of one of the world’s best restaurants, London’s three Michelin-starred The Fat Duck, said he never imagined selling his creations through another brand until he was approached by the Melbourne burger chain.

‘I never thought I would allow another restaurant to serve one of my very special burgers until I met the amazing team at Grill’d,’ Mr Blumenthal said.
