Celebrity hair stylist details how to recreate Dove Cameron’s beautiful updo

In 2021 Gen Z declared that side parts age a woman; and anyone born before 1997 was immediately trying to retrain their hair to fall a different way.

Singer and actress Dove Cameron, 27, makes a case for the look by regularly parting her hair down the middle and highlighting her facial features beautifully.

Whether her dark brown tresses are styled in a sleek up-do or hanging wild and free, Dove’s hair stylist, Jacob Rozenberg, reveals why the trend looks so good on his client, and how it can work on anyone.

According to Jacob, the center part works with any hair texture but natural growth patterns can cause a problem.

‘If you are someone who has a cowlick, it will affect the middle part and make it  more off-center. You just can’t fight mother nature!’

Whether she’s hitting the red carpet or going to dinner, Dove parts her mane down the middle.

Earlier this month the Emmy Award-winning actress and chart-topping singer was spotted at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Los Angeles in an all-black ensemble with her beautiful long hair worn down and wavy.

For the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party she stuck to her signature but with a twist.

‘Dove’s middle part is always such a statement to her overall look, which is why we decided to keep it for the Vanity Fair Oscar’s Party,’ said celebrity hair stylist, Jacob Rozenberg.

‘Not only does it look great on her, but it perfectly complements the messy, French twist we achieved using Balmain Hair Couture products.’

At the viewing party she donned a pink Mônot skirt and top, before changing into a black jewel-embellished gown from Maticevski, accessorized by a Marli New York necklace for the after-party.

Both looks were made complete with edgy nail art, a swipe of red lipstick, and a contemporary updo created by Jacob.

‘Dove wanted to feel girly, cute and glamorous – she didn’t want her hair to be too done,’ he said.

‘She’s been doing a lot of cool-girl, edgy stuff with her recent music, and wanted to switch things up for her Vanity Fair look and go with a messy French twist for her appearance.’

To achieve Dove’s tousled, messy up-do, Jacob started by sectioning her hair using the brand’s 14K Gold Plated Styling Comb.

‘Next, I applied the Volume Mousse Strong and used the comb to work the product through from the roots so it dispersed evenly,’ said the professional.

‘For the blow-dry, I mostly used my hands, but on surface areas such as off the part, around the face and the neck, I used the Professional Ceramic Round Brush 33mm.’

Jacob added bends to the hair with a curling iron. To create the shape of the messy French twist, he used the Session Spray Medium and bobby pins

To make the look last all night, he spritzed a generous amount of Session Spray Strong to keep everything in place.

Fortunately, you don’t have to have Dove’s bone structure to look good in the trend.

‘The center part can work on all face shapes depending on how the angles in the front frame of your face,’ said Jacob.

‘For example, if the pieces fall below your chin, at chin, at the lips and at cheekbone, that will determine if a middle part is right for the client.’

But if you don’t find middle-parted hairstyles flattering, good news! According to the expert, the side part is no longer considered passé.

‘I feel like the side part is making a comeback! I’ve been seeing it more and more lately, which I love,’ he reveals.
