Celeste Barber celebrated raising over $50million to help victims battling the raging bushfires around the country, just one week after launching her appeal.

On Saturday, the 37-year-old took to Instagram to announce that she’d met her goal, sharing a photo of the fundraiser and writing: ‘Power to the people!’ 

Celeste, a comedian known for her parodies of celebrities, attracted more than one million donations from people around the world.

Her husband, Api Robin, also took to Instagram to share a photo of Celeste breaking down in tears as the donations continued to flood the page.

According to 7News, the Facebook fundraiser is now officially the largest hosted on the platform.

Celeste initially launched her fundraiser by sharing footage of her NSW south coast-based mother-in-law, Joy Robin, who had been caught up in the fires.

‘This is our war. This fire is Australia’s war,’ a visibly upset Ms Robin said in the video posted to Celeste’s Instagram and Facebook accounts.

She added: ‘I’m fine, I’ve got a car and I’ve got somewhere to be safe but look at all these… all these people haven’t.’ 

Aside from raising funds, Celeste has also bought supplies for the firefighters on the frontline.

On Sunday, Celeste’s husband, Api Robin, shared a video of his wife ‘getting some essentials ready… for those heroic folks fighting the blazes’.

The footage showed Celeste struggling with six shopping trolleys filled with water, medical supplies and toiletries at a Coles supermarket.

The bushfires across Australia have so far claimed 26 lives, killed an estimated billion animals and destroyed thousands of homes.
