Celine Dion paid an emotional tribute to her late mother Thérèse Tanguay Dion on Friday as she took to the stage for a performance in Miami just a day after her death aged 92.
The hitmaker, 51, fought back tears as she paused her concert to tell fans she was ‘doing okay,’ and said she was grateful her entire family were able to say their goodbyes before she passed away.
Celine then launched into an emotionally charged performance while on-stage in Florida after announcing earlier in the day that Thérèse had passed away in Montreal.

‘I’m pretty sure that you heard the news about my mom passing away early this morning,’ Celine began, which set off a loud collective sigh from the audience.
She then changed the sombre tone to a roar of cheers by assuring fans: ‘But I’m doing okay and we’re all okay.’
Fighting back tears, Dion went on to talk about how her mother was ill for quite awhile, and that the family knew she wouldn’t be with them for long.

Sad: ‘I’m pretty sure that you heard the news about my mom passing away early this morning,’ Celine began during a break in her show, which set off a loud collective sigh from the audience
She went on to reveal that the family got a call from nurses two days prior to tell them that ‘her time was coming soon.’
‘So last night I joined my brothers and sisters in Montreal, and I spent the evening at her bedside. We told stories. We sang songs. We hugged each other and we said our goodbyes,’ she revealed, which pulled at the heartstrings of the crowd.
‘We are pretty sure that mom waited for us to be all together one more time.’
It was that line that got the most reaction from fans.

Dion was still able to go on and belt out the rest of the show decked out on an eye-catching red sequin dress and matching heels.
The show was part of her Courage World Tour that began in September in Quebec City, and goes until September 18, 2020.
Nicknamed Maman Dion, Thérèse Tanguay Dion was the mother of 14 children, worked as a television host and was a proud philanthropist.
Celine often took her mother to her performances and was photographed with her at many red carpet events.

On Friday Celine took to Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to her mother following her death by sharing a black-and-white photo from her childhood alongside her 13 siblings.
The caption read, ‘Maman, we love you so much… We dedicate tonight’s show to you and I’ll sing to you with all my heart. Love, Céline xx…’
Celine often took her mother with her to her performances and was photographed with her at red carpet events, and on her private jets during trips around the world.
On Mother’s day in 2019 Celine gushed about her love for her mother writing: ‘Now more than ever, I realise the importance of a mother’s role. Not only did you give me life, but you also wrote my destiny. I love you Mom.’
