Celine is selling $600 plastic bags because fashion

Now you can carry groceries in style because Celine is selling a clear plastic shopping bag but it will set you back a whopping $600.

The plastic shopper was first spotted on the high fashion brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway and now it’s being sold for $590 at a Nordstrom pop-up in Seattle, in Washington.

The bag is not currently sold online and instead is exclusively available at the Celine pop-up shop featured in the Nordstrom Downtown Seattle store which opened to the public on February 16 and will continue until May 29.

While this is definitely not the first time a designer released a bizarre bag, shelling out hundreds of dollars for a clear plastic grocery bag may seem a little insane especially because the bags you get when you buy something from the actual Celine store are pretty paper white bags.

The thick transparent vinyl shopper is priced out at $590 and is a plain clear plastic bag with CELINE Paris written on the front in black block letters.

Under the logo, there are four warning labels in English, French, German and Italian saying, ‘To avoid danger as suffocation keep away this bag from babies and children.’

Even though the bag looks like a flimsy one that you get when checking out at the nearest pharmacy, it’s actually made out of a thick vinyl material so you can use it as a reusable tote for groceries, which would probably be unlikely since it’s nearly $600.

Or you can use it as a purse if you want everyone to see your belongings through the purse.

Unfortunately, the bag is only available at the Seattle pop-up until May 29 and from there the bag will make it’s way to the Nordstrom Pacific Centre store in Vancouver, Canada in July for just a few months.

Maybe the shoppers will end up on eBay but for now it looks like people will have to follow the bag around the country as it lands in different Nordstrom pop-ups.

The plastic bag was one of the latest designs by creative director Phoebe Philo who left the brand in December 2017 so for those who were fans of the iconic creator are dying to get their hands on one.

Aside from the insanely expensive plastic shopping bag there are also other options being sold at the pop-up such as clothing, other handbags and accessories including little wallets and pouches.

What’s cool about the plastic tote is that it’s a limited edition piece that is exclusive to the traveling pop-up and some of the other exclusives ate a pair of baby blue cat eye sunglasses, lace-up sneakers and a key-chain.

To some people the plastic grocery bag may seem absolutely ludicrous but this isn’t the first time regular everyday objects have been turned into fashion must-haves.

Never forget the time Balenciaga was selling a $1,200 Shopping Bag, a simple white calfskin bag with black handles stamped with the fashion house’s name.

In fact, Balenciaga has been on a roll with insane purses like the iconic blue IKEA tote they recreated for over $2,000 or the $3,240 bag they released that looked exactly like a blanket bag.

Many brands have recreated the classic plastic bag that you can get anywhere that either has a smiley face or ‘thank you come again!’ written on it.

One of the most creative ones was the ASHISH Thank You Please Come Again sequinned bag which is selling for $529.

However, perhaps one of the craziest high fashion looks was the $800 Moschino Cape Sheer Overlay Dress which was literally a plastic bag that you get with your fresh dry cleaning and it even has the ‘We heart our customers’ sign at the top.
