Channel 10 makes the Covid-19 vaccine mandatory for Sydney staff

Channel 10 makes the Covid-19 vaccine mandatory for Sydney staff weeks after a café worker in the building tested positive

Channel 10 is leading the charge against Covid-19 by introducing a mandatory vaccination policy for certain employees.

Management announced the news on Wednesday in a company-wide email.

For the time being, the policy only applies to on-site broadcast and production staff at 10’s Pyrmont headquarters, reports TV Blackbox.

The decision to make the Covid vaccine mandatory coincides with NSW lifting restrictions next Monday after reaching 70 per cent double-dose vaccination.

Essential production and broadcast staff working at the Pyrmont studio will need to provide evidence they’ve had at least one dose starting from next Monday.

However, most employees at 10 will still be working from home as the state reopens and so will not be required to provide proof of their vaccination status.

Employees working in the office sections of the building are also not yet required to provide proof, but will need to wear face masks and follow Covid-safe measures.

The policy comes after a barista at the café next to the Pyrmont studio tested positive to Covid-19 last month, forcing multiple employees into quarantine, including Studio 10 co-host Tristan MacManus.

While 10 has introduced mandatory vaccination for a portion of its workforce, the network does not have rapid Covid testing protocols for employees entering the site.

Rival networks Seven, Nine and Fox Sports have all introduced compulsory rapid testing for anyone entering their Sydney buildings or offices.

Seven’s breakfast show Sunrise has also reportedly mandated the Covid vaccine for production staff and presenters in the studio.
