Dylan Alcott’s sexologist girlfriend Chantelle Otten replaces the cover for book after a dispute over the artwork

Melbourne sexologist Chantelle Otten has temporarily withdrawn her new book, The Sex Ed You Never Had, due to issues surrounding its cover art.

The 30-year-old, who is the girlfriend of Paralympian Dylan Alcott, explained the book’s design was too similar to the logo of an American company, The Sex Ed.

‘It has come to the attention of myself and my publisher and our designer that the design of my book has similarities to a logo of a company over in the United States,’ she said in an emotional video shared to Instagram.

‘That company is called The Sex Ed. And I’ll be honest, this is a really hard situation to be in. I’m mortified. I’m actually really devastated for everyone that’s involved and it’s really not something that I’d wish on anyone,’ she added.

Fighting back tears, Chantelle acknowledged The Sex Ed would have been upset to see its intellectual property used elsewhere, but insisted her publisher hadn’t copied the artwork deliberately.

‘I can only imagine for The Sex Ed, finding this online would have been really brutal, and for that I’m sorry,’ she said.

‘They’re an amazing platform that does great work in championing sexuality. We’ve just kind of ended up in this unfortunate, weird coincidence here, and it really sucks.’

Chantelle added that while her book’s design wasn’t a deliberate act of plagiarism, she had to ‘act immediately’ to resolve the issue.

‘We’ve decided to change the design of the book, and we’ve taken down past imagery as well,’ she said.
