Charges are dropped against Remy Ma for allegedly punching her VH-1 co-star

Charges against rapper and reality television star Remy Ma have been dropped in connection with an alleged attack on her co-star Brittney Taylor.

Prosecutors said they were unable to prove that Remy Ma, 38, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, assaulted Taylor during a benefit concert at Irving Plaza in April.

‘The sole corroborating eyewitness for the complainant is no longer cooperative,’ Assistant District Attorney Juan Maldonado told a judge on Monday.

Taylor, 27, did not report the alleged incident until two days later

‘An unaffiliated witness remembers seeing the defendant the entire time the defendant was in the green room at Irving Plaza, where the assault purportedly occurred. This eyewitness never saw the defendant and the complainant interact in the time she observed the defendant.

‘After a thorough, months-long investigation, the people are moving to dismiss this case,’ Maldonado said. ‘We cannot prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.’ 

Prosecutors also said that conflicting evidence in the case and accounts of the night’s events raised simply too many questions making the case impossible to prove. 

Remy Ma had been charged with four counts of misdemeanor assault and harassment.

The incident in question happened around 9:30 p.m. during a benefit concert on Tuesday, April 16, at Irving Plaza in the East Village.

Taylor had claimed that Remy Ma punched her in her right eye which led to bruising and swelling. She ended up being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital.

But instead of reporting the incident to police officers at the concert, she ended up filing a police report the following day and posted a picture of her black eye on Instagram. 

After surrendering to the charges in May, Ma was released on $1,500 bail.    

The case began to fall apart after Taylor wrote in a private group chat that it was actually Ma’s husband, Papoose, who left her with the black eye, according to the New York Post.

‘I have the video,’ Taylor allegedly wrote. ‘Papoose is a B**** for toching [sic] me and he’s a B**** for making his wife take the wrap [sic] for it! SMFH!!! N***** REALLY KNOCKED ME OUT BRO! S–T MAKING ME SICK TO MY SOUL.’

The chat was released on social media and turned over to prosecutors.

After walking out of court on Monday, Ma was pleased with the result.

‘I wish they would have come to this conclusion before I had an ankle bracelet and lost months and months of wages and had a curfew,’ she said. ‘Before I paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a lawyer.’ 

Ma has served time in jail in the past and was behind bars for six years after shooting a friend in 2007. 

After she was paroled, Ma landed a role on the popular VH1 show, Love and Hip Hop New York where she starred alongside Taylor.

The Bronx-born rapper was pictured wearing a pink and yellow faux fur coat as she walked out of Manhattan Criminal Court along with a big smile on her face
