And seven years since first uttering the defining statement, Charlie Sheen has revealed the reality of his life at that time was actually the opposite.
The US actor, 52, spoke candidly during an interview with Waleed Aly, 39, on Tuesday’s episode of Network Ten’s The Project.

Touching upon the subject, Waleed started the interview by asking: ‘Would you say you’re still winning?’
The actor then responded: ‘If I’m alive then I am still winning!’
Delving deeper into Charlie’s difficult time, Waleed then questioned: ‘Are you winning more now than you were when you said it all those times?’
Charlie, unfazed by the subject, laughed: ‘Yeah, it didn’t really make much sense when you break it down.’

Recalling the experience The Project on Tuesday, he explained: ‘I’d been fired from the show which was going pretty good, I lost the ability to hang out with my kids, they kept all my money, and somehow in my mind that came out as winning.’

When asked what inspired the quote, Charlie hinted it was a conversation with a big-name star.
‘I’d had a conversation with someone the day before, I can’t say who but it was someone I was a big fan of, and they said we’re a little bit different and we have Adonis DNA,’ he said.
‘He said, “most of the time we’re just winning.” This really struck me in a way and the following day I did that famous interview where it all imploded.
‘When I went back to my friend and said, “sorry about that, I didn’t mean to steal your thunder,” he said, “no it’s okay, clearly it wound up in the right guy’s brain and mouth.”‘
