Charlize Theron celebrates 46th birthday on a yacht with ’80s-themed ‘prom murder mystery’ party

She’s been vacationing on the Greek islands with her family in recent days.

And Charlize’s trip coincide with her birthday, so her pals threw her an ’80s-themed ‘prom murder mystery’ birthday party while aboard a massive yacht off the coast of Greece.

The Atomic Blonde actress, who turned 46 on Saturday, looked playful and youthful in a casual pink T-shirt while snapping some photos with her longtime friend Beth Kono on the ship’s deck.

Charlize paired the pink graphic T-shirt, which read ‘Birthday Girl,’ with a pair of frayed cut-off jeans.

She had multiple colored strands of beads around her neck and wore purple bows in her short blond hair.

The Oscar winner matched the colorful ’80s theme with purple mesh fingerless wrist gloves, and she relaxed with a glass of white wine.

Kono, who started as an assistant to Charlize before graduation to producing multiple films with her, wore a blond bob wig and a blue bow with similar baby blue fingerless gloves and a blue sequin off-the-shoulder dress.

A follow-up picture showed Charlize in the main cabin surrounded by her friends, who all wore cartoonishly stereotypical outfits paying tribute to a mostly imagined 1980s.

Included in the celebrations were her two daughters, Jackson, nine, and August, five, with Jackson standing behind her and August doing the splits in a fuchsia tutu while holding a giant inflatable cell phone.

Also joining them on the birthday trip was Charlize’s mother Gerda Jacoba Aletta Maritz.

Although the Mad Max: Fury Road Star is often private about her family, she didn’t mind sharing a fun slow-motion clip of her and her daughters taking the plunge off the side of the yacht earlier in the week.

‘Me and my girls 4 life,’ she wrote sweetly in the caption.

Charlize adopted her eldest, Jackson, in 2012 and then her youngest, August, in 2015.

Speaking to Elle in 2018 about how she became a mother, Charlize admitted: ‘I struggled mentally through the adoption process. Some of my lowest points in my life were dealing with the first time I filed; it really took an emotional toll.

‘There were so many situations that didn’t work out, and you’d get attached and have all your hopes up and then just get crushed,’ she explained.

Charlize, who said she had a ‘strong need to be a mom,’ admits she could not have done it without her mother Gerda, who she said co-parents with her.

She said: ‘I knew that I would have to have my mom help me if I was going to do this as a single parent. To not acknowledge her co-parenting my children would be a lie.’
