A ‘cheerful and happy’ binman was killed by his lorry in an horrific accident during his team’s morning rounds.
Father-of-five Paul Abbott, 59, was collecting waste in Northolt, north-west London on Tuesday when he was hit by the lorry.
He reportedly died a hero after pushing a colleague out of the way of the vehicle before he was struck. The cause of the accident will be addressed in an inquest.
Shattered friends tonight told MailOnline Mr Abbott was a ‘hard worker who loved his family with all his heart.’

Simon Scott, a former colleague, said: ‘He was such a top lad, a cheerful and happy chap who loved his job. May you rest in peace.’
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.
‘Police were called to Priors Field, Northolt at 7.27am on Tuesday following reports of a collision,’ the spokesman said.
‘Officers and crews from the London Ambulance Service attended and found a refuse lorry had been in collision with Mr Abbott, one of the lorry crew.
‘Mr Abbott was treated at the scene by paramedics but died in an ambulance on the way to hospital. A post mortem examination is due to take place later.
‘The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries. No arrests have been made.’
