Thiago Silva’s wife Belle has leapt to the defence of her husband after claiming he was criticised for ‘not attacking enough’ during Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat at home to Brentford.

The European champions were torn apart by their west London rivals at Stamford Bridge, despite taking the lead through Antonio Rudiger three minutes into the second half.

Two minutes later Vitaly Janelt smashed home from close range to equalise, before Christian Eriksen edged the visitors ahead in the 54th minute.

Janelt then added his second and Brentford’s third on the hour mark, and as Chelsea chased a late comeback Yoane Wissa sealed the rout three minutes from time.

Silva and his fellow Blues defenders were run ragged by the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney, meaning they came in for criticism on the day.

And after hearing a commentator take aim at her husband, Belle Silva issued a fiery response on her Instagram story.

‘I’m here in my box at Stamford Bridge,’ she said. ‘I just listened right now to the commentator, who said that Thiago Silva is not attacking enough,’ she said.

‘Respect Thiago Silva because Thiago Silva arrived yesterday, Thiago Silva played for Brazil, Thiago Silva is very tired, Thiago Silva is 37 years old, he plays like he is 20 years old.

‘So respect him, he’s not a machine. He needs to relax, alright?’

Thomas Tuchel put his side’s disastrous defeat down to a ‘strange 10 minutes’, insisting they lost control of the game during that period.

‘It was strange because we were working hard for the first goal and we know how hard it is to create chances against Brentford,’ he said.

‘They defend either very high and man mark or defend very deep in a block of 10 men around the box. You need to be patient, have a fluid rhythm and intelligent and clinical to take little chances to have that first goal and break that block down.

‘Once we had [the opener] we stopped defending and gave three goals away in 10 minutes. It was very untypical and killed the game for us.

‘I don’t know why we gave away a big chance straight after the goal and then the next one and from there we did not defend mature enough. We were not aware of the danger in these moments which is also very strange for us.

‘We got punished. They made the most of these 10 minutes, which is maybe also not normal. It’s a summary of strange events. It’s on us. It’s our fault.’
