Chelsea youngster Omari Kellyman has been ruled out for the rest of the season after reinjuring his hamstring.

The 19-year-old, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa in a deal worth £19 million last summer, is yet to feature for the Blues.

He has played just 35 minutes of Premier League football during his time with the Midlands club last term.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Kellyman said he was ‘beyond gutted’ to learn that his campaign is over and described the 2024-25 season as a ‘tough’ one both mentally and physically.

‘Beyond gutted to say that this season has come to an early end for me due to a reinjury of my hamstring, despite only just returning after having hamstring issues for a massive part of the season,’ he wrote.

’24/25 has been a tough season for me mentally and physically due to injury but it’s important now to that I take time to get this right and come out the other side stronger ad better ready for what next season brings.’

Kellyman’s move to west London was motivated by Villa’s need to meet PSR requirements at the end of the summer window.

The club sold another midfielder Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9m while they plan to bring in Lewis Dobbin in return in a separate deal.

The striker represented Northern Ireland at multiple youth levels before receiving clearance to switch his international allegiance to his country of birth last year.

Since then Kellyman has appeared for England at U19 level, making seven appearances for Will Antwi’s side.

Despite Chelsea’s struggles in attack this term, with the long term absence of Nicolas Jackson and inconsistent form of Christian Nkunku, the youngster has been unable to make a single of Enzo Maresca’s matchday squads.
