Chelsea and England star Ruben Loftus-Cheek has denied online rumours that he had told his team mates he was gay. 

The 22-year-old midfielder wrote on Twitter: ‘Any player who came out as gay, they’d have my full support and respect.

‘But the rumour isn’t true.’

No current premier league footballer has ever announced they were gay while playing in England. 

Former Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzlsperger announced he was gay after retiring from the sport in 2013 due to injury.  

A Chelsea fan was recently fined almost £1,000 and banned from all football stadiums until 2022 after he admitted hurling homophobic abuse at Brighton and Hove Albion players on December 16 at the Amex Stadium in Brighton.  

George Bradley was thrown out of the ground by stewards and police after he was heard furiously yelling foul abuse at players while his team played away at Brighton and Hove Albion on December 16.

The 20-year-old was heard in the ‘away’ seating section and later arrested. He was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress, a police spokesman said.
