Chelsea boss Antonio Conte refuses to discuss his future ahead of potential last home game

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte refuses to discuss his future ahead of potential last home game against Huddersfield

  • It is expected that manager Antonio Conte will leave Chelsea in the summer
  • That means Wednesday’s clash with Huddersfield could be his last match
  • But Conte would not be drawn on the suggestions ahead of that encounter

Antonio Conte fuelled speculation that his reign at Chelsea is coming to a close, as he dodged questions over whether Wednesday’s clash against Huddersfield would be his last at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian is expected to leave the Blues at the end of the season, meaning Wednesday’s clash against the Terriers would be his final home game in charge.

And when asked about the prospect of the match at Stamford Bridge being his final game at the stadium, Conte replied: ‘I’m very focused on the present and I think my answer is always the same.

‘I am very focused on the present to do my job in the best way with these players, for the fans.

‘I’m really focused on the present and as you know our job is not simple, not easy but I am totally focused on the present and that is now to finish the season in the best possible way with my players because our fans deserve this.’

Striker Alvaro Morata, who is fit for the game against Huddersfield, is being viewed as a player who may follow his manager out of the exit at Chelsea.

He has been linked with a return to Juventus but Conte would not be drawn on that possible move: ‘No I think, I don’t like to comment on speculation. It is not right now for everyone. It is important to be focused on the present and to finish this season in the best possible way.

‘Morata is Chelsea’s player and he has to be ready to play tomorrow and next season. The situation is very clear.

‘In this season, was a difficult season but not only Morata. Your focus is on Morata but I like that your focus is for the whole team not only for one player.’

Chelsea will climb into the top four if they beat Huddersfield and Tottenham do not win against Newcastle.

Conte would not talk up Chelsea’s hopes, as the situation remains out of their hands despite recent good form: ‘The only way to put a bit of pressure is this, to get three points in every game and in the last month we did this.

‘We won three tough games away and one game at home against Liverpool. We are doing our job in the best way to put a bit of pressure on Liverpool and Tottenham but the situation is not in our hands.

‘They have the possibility to win the last game against Brighton to reach the Champions League and it is the same for Tottenham.

‘Two games at home and it will be enough to win one game and draw and then we are penalised in this situation.’
