Chelsea Clinton heads home from the hospital with baby Jasper and mom Hillary

Chelsea Clinton left the hospital today with her new son Jasper in tow, moments after her mother Hillary Clinton arrived to help her home.

Chelsea and her husband Marc Mezvinsky, 41, welcomed their third child on Monday morning, but the mother-of-three stayed at Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for three days before returning to her Gramercy apartment on Thursday morning.

The 39-year-old was photographed walking out of the hospital in a blue dress with white polka dots, beaming as she carried the swaddled newborn to the car.

Chelsea appeared in great spirits as she headed outside on the sunny New York City day with her new bundle of joy.

She wore a navy dress with tiny white polka dots that fell just above her knee — incidentally, the same dress she wore when she left Lenox Hill with her other son, Aidan, in 2016.

While last time she paired the dress with a low open-toe nude wedge shoe, this time she picked a closed-toe version of the same style.

Her trip out of the hospital was slightly more low-key this time than it was on that occasion. In 2016, Chelsea, Marc, baby Aidan, Bill, and Hillary — who was gearing up for the election — all posed for the pictures on the steps of the hospital, where they were joined by several members of staff.

Meanwhile on Thursday morning, the children’s book author left through a side entrance, accompanied by her husband and her mother Hillary, 71.

She carried Jasper protectively in her arms, having swaddled him in a white blanket and obscured his face from photographers who had gathered outside.

Marc escorted Chelsea to a car waiting on the curb, then hopped in so he could take baby Jasper from Chelsea before she got into the car as well.

The whole family looked incredibly happy, wearing glowing smiles on their faces for the very brief public appearance.

Chelsea’s father, former President Bill Clinton, was noticeably absent from the sweet family moment; the 72-year-old arrived in Finland on Thursday, presumably for a work commitment, and therefore just missed the opportunity to join his daughter and grandson for the trip home.

There were, however, a few fans gathered outside, many of whom waved and took pictures of the family as they made their way to their car.

Hillary, who wore a blue and white dress quite similar to her daughter’s, smiled and waved at well-wishers in return.

Chelsea first announced Jasper’s birth on Monday morning but spent three full days recovering at the hospital.

Upon leaving, she tweeted her gratitude for everyone at the hospital.

‘Thank you to the incredible @LenoxHill family of doctors, nurses & staff for your wonderful care over the past few days for our family, especially Jasper!’ she wrote.

She was later photographed arriving home at the Gramercy apartment she shares with her husband and three children.

This time, it was Marc carrying the baby, with the proud dad cradling Jasper carefully in his arms, holding the bundled-up newborn to his chest while walking into the lobby of his building.

Hillary has made visits to her daughter every day since the arrival and she followed on closely behind the couple as they left the hospital, having arrived at Lenox Hill an hour or so before Marc and Chelsea took their newborn son home.

The former Secretary of State has been a regular visitor to the hospital since her daughter gave birth on Monday morning, making daily trips to Lenox Hill to see Chelsea and Jasper during their three-day stay.

On Thursday, Hillary wore a blue and white polka-dot dress over black leggings, which perfectly coordinated with her daughter’s outfit of the day. She finished off her look with black bow flats, stud earrings, a beaded necklace, and sunglasses.

Chelsea had also given birth to her son Aidan at Lenox Hill back in 2016, and the hospital is famed for its luxurious maternity suites, which were last renovated in 2012.

The cost per night is upwards of $2,000, putting Chelsea’s three-night stay at an estimated $6,000 or more.

Mothers who give birth there are privy to a concierge that can accommodate any whim the family has, as well as 24-hour food service that will whip up everything from lobster to cheesecake.

Other amenities reportedly include plush terry cloth robes, microwaves, coffee makers, and plasma screen TVs. The suites also include bedrooms for partners, plus two bathrooms.

Beyoncé also gave birth there in 2012 when she and Jay-Z welcomed Blue Ivy, and one of the suites is informally named after.

And while baby Jasper may have been born in the lap of luxury, he was also born amidst plenty of love.

He has certainly been dominating his proud grandmother’s week, as Hillary has visited him every day.

On Wednesday, she also shared a photo on Facebook and reminisced about what it was like to have Chelsea as a newborn baby.

‘Thinking of this photo of my mother holding baby Chelsea, with my dad looking on over her shoulder, as Chelsea this week has just welcomed her third child, Jasper,’ she wrote. ‘Bill and I are extraordinarily proud grandparents, just like they were.’

The family photo was taken in 1980, soon after Chelsea was born on February 27 of that year.

Hillary’s mother Dorothy Howell is pictured center, sitting on a blue chair in a colorful top and blue vest. She’s holding a swaddled Chelsea in her arms, while Hillary’s dad Hugh Rodham stands in the background, partially cut out of the photo.

Hillary, then 32, sits on the arm of the chair and smiles as she looks on.

Shortly after uploading the snap, Hillary darted over to the hospital. The proud grandmother was surprisingly bundled up for a warm New York City day, dressed in a white jacket worn over a black top and pants.

She smiled wide as she waves to onlookers and photographers, holding up an arm stacked with silver bangles. She also accessorized with a chunky necklace, big stud earrings, and sunglasses.

Her husband wasn’t with her when she got out of a black SUV to head into the building.

On Tuesday, she was photographed walking into the hospital, beaming as she was seen exiting an SUV shortly after lunchtime.

Though she arrived alone, just hours later, former President Clinton pulled up at the hospital in a blacked-out SUV, wearing a pair of chunky-soled sneakers and a gray suit jacket.

Just like his wife, Bill couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off his face as he made his way into the building to see his family, pausing for a few minutes to sign autographs and wave at the waiting photographers.

Chelsea shared the happy news of the family’s newest addition on Twitter on Monday morning.

‘This morning we welcomed our son, Jasper Clinton Mezvinsky. We are overflowing with love and gratitude and can’t wait to introduce him to his big sister and brother,’ the mother-of-three wrote at 10:34am EST.

She updated her Twitter bio, too, to say she is ‘Mom of Charlotte, Aidan & Jasper.’

Her mother also took to social media to share her delight, writing: ‘Sharing some happy news this morning! Bill and I are so thrilled.’

Bill also retweeted Chelsea, writing: ‘Hillary and I are overjoyed and grateful to meet our new grandson, Jasper!’

The proud grandparents made a same-day visit to the hospital on Monday, and then returned again just hours later to spend more time with their baby grandson, with both choosing very casual ensembles for the occasion.

The former first lady was photographed exiting a black SUV, wearing a huge smile on her face as she made the short walk inside.

She was dressed in black pants and a blue and white patterned jacket, which she accessorized with a pair of earrings and gray slip-on sneakers.

Hillary walked confidently into the hospital by herself, shaking a woman’s hand before going through the doors.

A few hours later, Bill arrived on the scene in a near-identical vehicle — and a very similar ensemble — wearing a pair of dark trousers and a matching shirt, which he wore with a pale gray suit jacket.

He then completed the low-key look with a pair of chunky dad-style sneakers that had very chunky, supportive soles, as well as several red flashes along the otherwise-gray design.

A smiling Bill also held his iPhone in his hand as he strolled into Lenox Hill Hospital, and wore a pair of rimless glasses.

The pair were also full of smiles when they arrived at the hospital shortly after Jasper’s birth, this time making the trip to see their daughter together.

The former president and former Secretary of State grinned with excitement as arrived, smiling to photographers and passerby as they made their way. They were still smiling when they left later in the evening, waving at admirers.

‘Everybody’s good,’ they told photographers outside.

This is the third child for Chelsea and her husband, who share four-year-old daughter Charlotte and three-year-old son Aidan.

The family has yet to publish photos of their newest member, though it’s unlikely there will be many snaps. Chelsea and Marc are quite private about their family, and Chelsea — who doesn’t have a public Instagram account — has shared precious few images of Charlotte and Aidan.

The author and activist, who lived in the White House as a teenager, married Marc Mezvinsky in 2010. The couple had first met in 1993 at a Democratic political retreat, when Chelsea’s father Bill was in office as President.

Pennsylvania-native Marc is an investor and former vice chairman at the venture capital firm Social Capital. His parents, Edward Mezvinsky and Marjorie Margolies,  were both Democratic members of the U.S House of Representatives.

Since the New York-based couple welcomed their two children, Marc is a stay-at-home dad.
