Chelsea Clinton has slammed her ex-pal Ivanka Trump, claiming that she ‘went to the dark side’ – while accusing her husband, Jared Kushner, of lying about inviting her to dinner in 2016.
Chelsea, 42, visited Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night alongside her mother, Hillary Clinton, to promote their new Apple TV+ show, Gutsy, which premiered today.
During the appearance, the only daughter of Hillary and former President Bill Clinton was asked about her friendship – or lack thereof – with Ivanka, 40, and she threw a dig at Donald Trump’s daughter.

While the ladies were once ‘close’ friends, their relationship appears to have fractured after the nasty presidential election in November 2016, which saw Donald and Hillary spew insults at one another as they both faced off in an attempt to become the 45th President of the United States.
Ivanka’s husband, Jared, 41, claimed in his recently-released book that Ivanka tried to call Chelsea to arrange a get-together after Donald beat Hillary in the election; however, Chelsea has now said that while Ivanka did reach out after the election, she was not invited to any dinner.
‘It is true that I spoke to Ivanka in November 2016, it’s the last time I have spoken to her,’ she said on the show. ‘But I do not recall being invited to dinner.’
‘Were you guys real good buddies? How would you describe your friendship or relationship?’ the host pressed.
‘I would say we were friends,’ Chelsea went on. ‘She’s not the person I called when I was curious about something for my kids or if I was debating a life decision, but we were definitely friends. And then she went to the dark side.’

In his new memoir, Breaking History, Jared wrote that Donald asked Ivanka to reach out to Chelsea in November 2016 and invite her, and the rest of the Clintons, over for a meal in an attempt to develop a ‘cordial relationship’ after the ugliness of the election.
‘It is true that I spoke to Ivanka in November 2016, it’s the last time I have spoken to her,’ she said on the show. ‘But I do not recall being invited to dinner’
‘He even told Ivanka to invite Hillary and Bill for dinner in the coming weeks,’ wrote Jared.
‘Ivanka did call Chelsea, but days later Hillary backed [Green Party presidential nominee] Jill Stein’s challenge to the election, and Trump ended his outreach.’
It was reported that Chelsea and Ivanka met through their political families, but grew especially close in the 2010s since their husbands were friends.
In early 2016, when asked about her relationship with Ivanka, Chelsea told Entertainment Tonight, ‘Ivanka and I talk about everything.’
She also gushed to Harper’s Bazaar in August of that same year, ‘I still consider her a very close friend, and she considers me as well. We have a great relationship.’
‘I would say we were friends,’ Chelsea also said of their relationship. ‘We were definitely friends. And then she went to the dark side’

In early 2016, when asked about her relationship with Ivanka, Chelsea told ET, ‘Ivanka and I talk about everything.’ She also gushed to Harper’s Bazaar: ‘I consider her a very close friend’
She even compared Ivanka to her father in an interview with Vogue, telling the outlet, ‘She’s always aware of everyone around her and ensuring that everyone is enjoying the moment.
‘It’s an awareness that in some ways reminds me of my dad, and his ability to increase the joy of the room. There’s nothing skin-deep about Ivanka.’
But in 2020, during a previous appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Chelsea revealed they were no longer in contact.
‘I have no interest in being friends with someone who is not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration’s every day collision of cruelty and incompetence,’ she stated at the time.
‘We were in touch at the beginning of the campaign, but it’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate, whether it’s their father or not, who is trafficking in racism and sexism and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies and is so fundamentally corrupt.’
