Chelsea fans have taken numerous swipes at Thibaut Courtois on social media after his horror show sparked Chelsea’s downfall at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

The Belgium international endured a particularly difficult evening in the Champions League last-16 second leg after being beaten through his legs twice by Lionel Messi.

The Argentine put Barca ahead in the second minute at the near post before Courtois allowed him to fire in between his legs once again in the second half to seal victory.

Fans did not take long to share some hilarious posts of Courtois, with one even sharing a mock-up of a net between his legs to provide extra security.

Others claimed he should wear a long dress while in goal to prevent the ball from going through while one eagle-eyed supporter shared a clip of Messi scoring a similar goal against Courtois when he was at Atletico Madrid.

Another fiercely criticised the Belgian’s performance, saying: ‘Courtois really let all the Chelsea fans down last night. You can’t expect one of your top players to have such an off night in the club’s biggest game of the season.’

The Chelsea goalkeeper didn’t hide after the match, saying: ‘I didn’t expect Messi to shoot from there and I was too late to close my legs so that was a mistake on my part. It’s not nice to start an evening like that.

‘They scored off our mistakes. I think mostly it was our individual mistakes that cost us.

‘I’ve played against him a lot of times. I already concede goals through my legs from him. For a goalkeeper like me from two metres, it’s my weakest point between my legs.’
