Chelsea icon John Terry makes savage dig at Arsenal and Piers Morgan

‘I’ve won more trophies since I retired playing golf than Arsenal have’: John Terry makes savage dig at the Gunners, claiming they’ve ‘gone missing for 20 years’ after Piers Morgan boasted about his side’s 21-point lead over big-spending Chelsea

  • Chelsea icon Terry laughed off the comment, saying he’s won more playing golf

John Terry has savagely taken aim at Arsenal by claiming he’s ‘won more trophies playing golf’ since he retired than they have – while reminding Gunners fan Piers Morgan not to get too ahead of himself.

Terry’s comment comes after Morgan smugly reminded Chelsea fans that they’re currently 21 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal – despite spending more than £323million in the January transfer window.

‘Reminder to Chelsea fans: we’re top of the League, you’re 10th, and we’re 21pts ahead of you with a game in hand. So spend all the gazillions you want but what you REALLY need to buy is a telescope to look up at Arsenal,’ Morgan wrote on Twitter with a picture of the Premier League table to accompany it.

Terry, who won 17 titles as a Chelsea player – most of which as captain, bit back and made the dig at Morgan’s Arsenal, joking that he’s won more trophies playing golf than the north London club have.

Terry was also quick to remind Morgan that Arsenal still have half the season to play in their pursuit to become Premier League champions in nearly 20 years.

Terry responded: ‘You have gone missing for 20 years! And you still have a long way to go… I have won more trophies since I retired playing golf than Arsenal have.’

While Terry’s claim that he’s had more success than Arsenal away from the pitch is made in jest, the possibility of Arsenal winning their first league title in just under two decades is a distinct possibility.

And with Chelsea currently trailing the Gunners by 21 points, Graham Potter has a real task on his hands to bridge that gap.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has looked to back his manager in the market, signing eight new players before the window slammed shut on Tuesday at 11pm.

It has seen the Blues fork out £323m in the process, with their deadline day signing Enzo Fernandez – who they spent a British record £107m fee on – is yet to be officially unveiled hours after the window closed.

And with Chelsea currently languishing in 10th, Boehly will be hoping he can get an almighty return on his significant investment into the squad.
