Chelsea ‘will submit a £43m bid for Sporting Lisbon star Matheus Nunes’

Chelsea ‘are ready to submit a £43m bid for Sporting Lisbon star Matheus Nunes to steal a march on Wolves’ as new owner Todd Boehly looks to land his first signing since taking over from Roman Abramovich

  • Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes is generating interest from England
  • Chelsea and Wolves, according to a report in Portugal, are monitoring Nunes
  • A Bola say that the Blues are ready to solidify their interest with a £43m bid

Chelsea are reportedly ready to make their first signing of the Todd Boehly era by pressing ahead with a €50million (£43m) offer for Matheus Nunes.

According to a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola, Chelsea are ready to ‘attack’ the market and make an offer for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

Wolves are said to hold an interest in Nunes but the report says that a switch to Molineux ‘doesn’t appeal’, leaving the door open for Chelsea to plot their move.

Tuchel is yet to make a signing so far this summer

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly plotting a move for Sporting star Matheus Nunes

Thomas Tuchel has not made a single addition so far this summer despite interest in defender Jules Kounde, Raheem Sterling and Raphinha, as well as growing talk around Cristiano Ronaldo and now Nunes.

New Chelsea owner Boehly wants to make an immediate impact on the club this summer and Nunes would represent a smart piece of business in freshening up the club’s midfield options.

The 23-year-old central midfielder dazzled in last season’s Champions League and shone so bright that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola even singled him out for praise.

‘Sporting are a fantastic team, they are the champions of Portugal, which have a very strong league, with Porto and Benfica, they change the ball well, they have fast and intelligent players,’ Guardiola said.

‘I would say that Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today.’

Interestingly Nunes is a client of Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency and it was Mendes who reportedly met with Boehly recently with the topic of a move for Ronaldo on the agenda.
