Two young children have been rushed to hospital after reportedly ingesting dangerous amounts of a prescription drug. 

The children, believed to be aged one and three, were found in a Bidwill home, west of Sydney, on Thursday after ingesting prescription heart medication, according to 7NEWS.

The youngest child was found unconscious and rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital by helicopter.

The older child was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick via ambulance. 

A New South Wales Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia officers attended the scene and gave assistance to paramedics before transporting the patients.

The spokeswoman said an investigation has been launched. 

The older child was still conscious when emergency crews arrived and was airlifted to the Westmead Children's Hospital, while the youngest was found unconscious
