Some of the UK’s favourite celebrities gathered on Friday night for the BBC’s annual Children In Need campaign – raising funds for disadvantaged youngsters across the country.

But 2019’s broadcast got off to an iffy start when the show suffered technical difficulties 20 minutes into the all-night-long transmission.

A little boy was standing by to play his violin for the millions of viewers at home, asked to explain why he was taking part in the evening’s events.

Give us a tune (or don’t): Children In Need 2019 suffered MAJOR technical difficulties in its opening minutes as a younger violinist was cut off as he started to play live on air. Hosts Tess Daly and Ade Adepitan blamed ‘wet leaves in the WiFi’ for the glitch

The youngster started to say something about his neighbour, only for his microphone to be switched off.

Interrupted by the presenter, unable to get a word in, he was told to play his violin without any context.

But the little boy had barely played a note when the screen cut off and a VT of Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain.

Moments later, hosts for the evening Tess Daly and Ade Adepitan were forced to apologise for the technical gaffe, with Tess explaining that there were ‘difficulties in London’, while Ade joked ‘there are wet leaves in the WiFi’.

Viewers took to Twitter to slam the glitches, with one posting, ‘This is a bit of a mess, init?’ as another penned: ‘That was awful. Those poor children that have worked so hard to raise money. I hope you go back and let that child play his violin!’

Other than these issues, the programme opened with the cast of Big: The Musical who sang a medley from the West End show.

Jay McGuiness, Kimberley Walsh and Matthew Kelly took to the stage to commence proceedings, after which Mark Wright was seen taking a group of young football lovers to meet some of England’s squad to play a round of soccer with a twist: on crutches!
