Children of former Liverpool footballer Djibril Cisse ‘have been the victims of racist attacks’

The children of former Liverpool footballer Djibril Cisse have been the victims of racist attacks, his ex-wife has said.

Jude Cisse said sons Cassius, 13, and Prince, 11 – both aspiring footballers themselves – were targeted in a string of social media messages.

The abuse was said to include a reference to a match where rival fans hurled bananas at their father, 37, while another message included a racial slur alongside laughing emojis.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, reality TV star Ms Cisse said: ‘The abuse my boys have suffered is beyond belief. What kind of sick individual would target a child like that?

‘It has left them talking about the colour of their skin and feeling different,’ she added.

Prince, who plays for Liverpool’s youth team, recently received a shocking series of Instagram messages.

And Cassius, a player for the academy of League Two side Crewe Alexandra, received a message making a racial slur alongside laughing-crying emojis.

Ms Cisse, 43, added that her ex-husband, who know plays for Italian third division side A.C. Venza 1902, is ‘absolutely fuming’ at the attacks and is supporting the investigation.

The pair, who divorced in 2012 after seven years of marriage, have a third son, Marley Jackson, 9, who also plays for Crewe.

Ms Cisse, who still lives in Cheshire at Frodsham Manor, added that the episode has left her shaken but said that she wants to stay strong for her boys and to say that racism and online abuse is unacceptable.

Cisse, who played for Liverpool for three years between 2004 and 2007, acquired the title of the Lord of the Manor of Frodsham and his ex-wife is jokingly refers to herself as ‘Lady Jude’ online.

She is a model and has appeared on shows including Come Dine With Me.

She has taken precautions including linking her sons’ accounts to her phone so she gets notifications when they receive messages.

‘Why should we be punished or miss out because of these pathetic cowards,’ Ms Cisse added.

Cheshire Police is said to be investigating whether a racially aggravated public order offence has been committed.

It comes amid a series of incidents of racist abuse in football as the issue remains firmly under the spotlight.

On Saturday, West Ham vowed to ban a group of supporters filmed engaging in anti-Semitic chanting prior to a Premier League match at Manchester United, while earlier in the week a video emerged which included a racially abusive chant about Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Last month, monkey chants were aimed at England players during a Euro 2020 qualifier away to Montenegro, after which Tottenham defender Danny Rose said he was looking forward to retiring from a game which has done too little to tackle the problem.
