A woman suffering a number of stab wounds has died at the scene of a Melbourne house fire and a man ‘known to her’ has been arrested at the scene of the tragedy.
Emergency services were called in this morning after reports a woman was injured and a house was on fire in Officer, in Melbourne’s south-east, just before 10am.
The woman had reportedly suffered a number of stab wounds and died at the scene, while a man was arrested after waiting on the front lawn of the burning building for response teams to arrive.
He was taken away in an ambulance and is being questioned by police.

The two-storey property has been completely destroyed by the fire, with nearby Bridgewater Primary School going into lockdown after the incident.
‘The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear, however it’s believed the parties are known to one another,’ Senior Constable Natalie Dean said.
Detectives are currently on the scene for the investigation.
