Chilling surveillance videos shows killers laying in wait

Cyle Van Kome (pictured), 24, and Kevin Nelson, 61, were shot and killed following a home invasion in South Ogden Utah

The mystery surrounding the murder Cyle Van Kome is no closer to being solved despite a year long investigation into the case by Utah police.

On December 6, 2016, three masked mean broke into Van Kome’s South Ogden home and subsequently executed the 24-year-old following a home invasion.

Van Kome’s 61-year-old neighbor, Kevin Nelson, was also shot and killed that night.

And as police continue to search for possible suspects in the crime, Van Kome’s parents wait to hear word of a breakthrough.

‘It’s frustrating that there’s so much [evidence] and we can’t find them,’ Van Komen’s mother, Ranae Finch, said in an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune this week.

‘I don’t want this to happen to somebody else. I don’t want another family to go through what we’re going through because of their disregard for life.’

‘You just feel so helpless,’ Van Komen’s father, J.J., told the Tribune.

‘It’s just guys, standing right there and you know that’s them, and you can’t do anything about it. You’re just hoping that somebody comes forward, you know. There were three individuals. Maybe one of them will get a conscience or something.’

J.J. Van Komen said he found out that Cyle had been killed after receiving a phone call from his youngest son, Brock.

Police say that their number one priority is finding the suspected killers in the case and bringing them to justice

‘How do you know that?’ the father recalled asking.

‘Because he’s in my arms,’ the son replied.

According to a South Ogden police affidavit, the three men had broken into the home demanding money, and murdered Van Kome along with his neighbor before fleeing the scene.

‘It is still the number one priority for our investigative team,’ South Ogden police Lt. Dwight Ruth stated in an email to the the Tribune, adding ‘we will continue to work it relentlessly.’

Finch told the Tribune that she remembers her hockey loving son as a genuine soul with a big heart, and hopes her family can find some closure once the suspects are apprehended.

‘He just had the biggest heart,’ Finch said. ‘He was very real… He didn’t do phony. That’s probably what I miss the most. He was always very open with me. He just truly valued the relationships that he made.’
