Cleaning experts at CHOICE have announced the ‘best’ bathroom cleaner in Australia after putting leading brands to the test based on price and performance.
The Australian consumer watchdog examined 10 products, including foam and spray varieties, to see how well they delivered for the price.
Results from the report show a cleaner from Coles, priced at an affordable $3.50, out-performed brands more than double the cost.

1. Coles Ultra Bathroom Foam
Taking out the top spot on the list of recommendations is Coles Ultra Bathroom Foam, priced at $3.50 for a 390mL can.
Testers awarded the affordable product a staggering 90 per cent for its overall performance.
It contains two active ingredients – benzalkonium chloride and sodium hydroxide – and is often mentioned as a hit product in Facebook cleaning groups.
Second place on the list was awarded to Dettol Healthy Clean Bathroom, priced at $4.50 (pictured left) while third was given to Bosisto’s Bathroom and Shower Cleaner, priced at $5 (pictured right)
2. Dettol Healthy Clean Bathroom
Second place was awarded to Dettol Healthy Clean Bathroom, a spray product priced at $4.50 for 500mL.
Experts also awarded this product an overall score of 90 per cent, however, at $4.50 it’s a dollar more expensive than the top-rated product.
The active ingredient of this cleaner is hydrogen peroxide, benzalkonium chloride.
3. Bosisto’s Bathroom and Shower Cleaner
While natural cleaning products can be hit or miss, Bosisto’s Bathroom and Shower Cleaner was considered a top performer.
As well as being ranked number three on the list, the shower cleaner, priced at $5 for 500mLs, was awarded an overall score of 88 per cent.
The cleaner contains eucalyptus oil, lactic acid, naturally derived ethanol (alcohol).

4. OzKleen Mould Power Amazing Mould Killer
Taking out fourth place on the list of rated products is OzKleen Mould Power Amazing Mould Killer, priced at $5.99 for 500mL.
This spray product was awarded 87 per cent by CHOICE experts for its cleaning and mould removal power.
Natural bioflavonoids (derived from the rind and pulp of citrus fruits) are the product’s active ingredient.
White King Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner Ocean Breeze, priced at $5.79 (pictured left) was awarded fifth spot while sixth place was given to Coles Ultra Mould Killer, priced at $3 (pictured right)
5. White King Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner Ocean Breeze
The consumer outlet awarded White King Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner Ocean Breeze fifth spot on the list and an overall ranking of 87 per cent.
The bleach-free spray product is priced at $5.79 for a 500mL bottle size.
It’s designed as a multi-surface product and contains benzalkonium chloride as its active ingredient.
6. Coles Ultra Mould Killer
Coles also made a second appearance on the list, this time taking out the sixth spot for its Ultra Mould Killer.
The product is priced at an affordable $3 and was awarded 83 per cent by testers for its overall performance.
It contains two active ingredients: sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide.

7. Dettol Big and Strong Bathroom Cleaning Wipes
Cleaning wipes, an alternative to sprays and foams, also featured on the list with Dettol Big and Strong Bathroom Cleaning Wipes awarded seventh place.
The product was rated an overall score of 83 per cent and is priced at $6 for a total of 25 extra-large wipes.
Its active ingredient is lactic acid. Lactic acid is understood to be safe and natural and well-known for its descaling properties.

8. Exit Mould Bathroom cleaner
The eighth spot on the list was given to Exit Mould Bathroom cleaner, a spray product priced at $6.70 for a 500mL bottle size.
Testers awarded the mould remover 83 per cent for its ability to remove spores and unsightly black spots.
The product contains several active ingredients including sodium hydroxide, alkaline salts and sodium hypochlorite.
9. Ajax Professional Bathroom Power Cleaner
Ajax Professional Bathroom Power Cleaner, priced at $5.80 for a 500mL bottle size, was awarded eighth place on the list.
The experts at CHOICE gave the product an overall rating of 82 per cent for its performance.
The spray cleaner also contains lactic acid as well as phosphoric acid.

10. Easy-Off Bam Power Cleaner Bleach and Hygiene
Tenth place on the list was given to Easy-Off Bam Power Cleaner Bleach and Hygiene.
The spray cleaner, priced at $5.80 for a 500mL bottle size, was rated at 76 per cent by experts at the consumer organisation for its performance.
It contains two active ingredients in the form of sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide.
