Chopper: Underbelly Files actor reveals on-set injuries

Underbelly Files: Chopper star Aaron Jeffery is no stranger to powering through trying circumstances.

So when told he’d be in for a painful few weeks of shooting, he offered no complaints.

But afterwards, he seemed slightly regretful, revealing the extent of his injuries to OK! Magazine, which included been required to have his ears pinned back.

‘It was a lot of fun, but my neck was so knotted from having my ears pinned back every day,’ he revealed.

‘I did all my fight scenes and got battered, plus I got sugar glass in my eyes because a pair of goggles not smashed on my head and I had to go to hospital.’

The veteran actor wasn’t complaining however, and actually revealed he was planning on showing a ‘softer’ side of the notorious Mark Chopper Read. 

Compared to some of the truly tragic experiences Aaron has suffered in his life, getting ‘battered’ on-set was the least of his worries.

In an interview with Who Magazine this month, Aaron revealed he was passed around ‘in a paedophile ring for a couple of years’ when he was younger.

Aaron, 48, admitted that memories of the traumatic sexual abuse came back to haunt him and ultimately led to him experiencing a ‘nervous breakdown’ as an adult. 

 ‘In my mid-twenties I had a nervous breakdown,’ he told the publication.’

‘I had a hard part of my childhood that came back to me – I was in a paedophile ring for a couple of years – and I had to deal with that.’

 Aaron underwent an incredible transformation to take on the role, packing on considerable pounds to play Chopper in the miniseries.

He is currently married to fellow actress Zoe Naylor, 40, with the couple sharing two children together: Sophia, five, and 20-month-old Beau.
