Accused wife killer Chris Dawson has been charged with sexually assaulting a former student during the 1970s and 1980s.

Dawson, a former teacher on Sydney’s northern beaches, was arrested and charged on Thursday with carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 10 and 17.

The 70-year-old was granted strict conditional bail and ordered to face the Downing Centre Local Court on August 8.

Just hours before his arrest, Dawson had been in the same court pleading not guilty to murdering his wife Lynette Dawson, who disappeared in 1982.

The former rugby league player was arrested in December, in the wake of enormous public attention about Mrs Dawson’s disappearance caused by popular podcast ‘The Teacher’s Pet’.

Police allege that Mrs Dawson was killed some time between 9pm on January 8 and 7am on January 9, 1982.

Her body has never been found.

Dawson’s lawyer Mr Walsh has previously claimed there is evidence that Mrs Dawson was seen after she went missing in 1982.

Two coronial inquests previously found Dawson was most likely the killer of his wife, but despite this it wasn’t until late last year that he was charged.
