Chris Hemsworth fails to high-five sushi restaurant owner

He may be the God Of Thunder, but it seems Chris Hemsworth hasn’t quite mastered the art of seamless social interactions.

The Thor actor was left seriously red-faced when he was completely failed to high-five a female fan while out for dinner with a group of pals on Saturday night.

The 34-year-old batted his hand feebly in the air in the oblivious woman’s direction just as she turned away from him – before attempting to salvage the situation by turning the gesture into a handshake.

Someone give the guy a hand! Chris Hemsworth was left red-faced as he failed to high-five an adoring female fan in spectacularly awkward exchange on Saturday

Things went from bad to worse when the woman turned back towards him, realised what he was doing and leaned in to high-five him.

But by this point Chris’ handshake was in full flow and the hunk, in a show of true awkwardness, was forced to grab the tips of the woman’s fingers and gaily shake them.

The wince-inducing encounter happened when he popped in to the Japanese restaurant on the Gold Coast.

Clearly amused by the exchange, Chris posted the moment to his Instagram Stories.

He's a hands-on kind of guy: The 34-year-old attempted to turn the high-five into a handshake and ended up awkwardly grasping the ends of the woman's fingers

It seems the father-of-three had built up quite a rapport with the beaming woman, who he sang happy birthday to earlier in the evening with his friends.

It’s not the first time Chris has suffered on the greetings front, as he was previously rejected for a high-five by his co-star Sebastian Stan when the Avengers: Infinity War cast appeared on Family Feud in April.

He went for a celebratory high-five with Sebastian only to be brutally ignored, and was forced to turn the move into a casual sleeve adjustment.

The same month, Chris – who is married to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky – encountered a similar situation at an airport.

The Rush actor was left utterly baffled when every fan, airport official and handler who he tried to greet failed to return his attempts at high-fives and handshakes.

Luckily, Hemsworth is spared from many fan encounters as he lives in Byron Bay, the quiet coastal town he and his family have called home since 2014.

The Hemsworth clan previously lived in Los Angeles before deciding to move to Australia for a quieter life.

‘I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating,’ he told Modern Luxury in 2016.

‘It’s nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community [Byron] that doesn’t live and breathe that world.’

‘We were living shoulder to shoulder in the suburbs and thought that’s not how we want our kids to grow up,’ he added. ‘Moving to a kind of farm setup back here on the coast in Australia has been the best thing.’

Just styling it out! The hunky actor was forced to salvage his rejections by running his hand through his hair while flashing a sheepish smile
