Chris Hemsworth is a keen surfer, often seen riding the waves in his hometown of Byron Bay.

But on Sunday, the 36-year-old tackled a different kind of ocean, as he hit the water at URBNSURF Melbourne.

The $30 million centre is Australia’s first surf park, with simulated waves being created in large pools.

It opens this summer and has been billed as ‘a church to surfing’ which allows keen sportsmen to hit their boards year round.

The Thor actor looked truly at home in the water park, effortlessly sliding through perfectly tubular waves.

Wearing a black wetsuit, the actor stood firm on his white surfboard as the water engulfed him.

Chris even had time to make a shaka sign – a popular surfer greeting – with both his hands as he posed for the camera.

Despite the cloudy skies above, the actor appeared to be having a wonderful time indulging in one of his great loves.

The superstar is often seen out in the ocean, taking his children surfing with him near his home at Byron Bay.

The Hollywood star lives in the coastal town with his wife Elsa Pataky, 43, and their children, adorable five-year-old twin boys Sasha and Tristan and daughter India Rose, seven.

Chris and Elsa recently finished construction of their sprawling $20 million mansion in Broken Head and have now officially moved in.

In June, Chris spoke about his decision to move to Byron Bay with his family in 2014, after they had spent several years living in LA.

The father-of-three told OK! magazine  the seachange had been a ‘good decision’ overall for his family.

He added: ‘Living in Australia allows me to be away from a world where you can lose touch with reality sometimes.’
