Chris Hemsworth to be honoured by good pal Russell Crowe with huge award after he was considered the ‘Global Star of the Decade’

Chris Hemsworth will  be honoured for his outstanding career and contribution to the Australian screen industry at the AACTA Awards on Wednesday night. 

He will be presented the award by AACTA president Russell Crowe with whom he acted alongside in Thor: Love and Thunder. 

It’s the first time the 39-year-old has received a prize from the organisation, with his only nomination coming in 2020 for Global Star of the Decade.

The former Home and Away star, who joins previous winners Simon Baker, Isla Fisher Rose Byrne, said he didn’t take his start in the Australian screen industry for granted. 

‘It’s a huge honour to accept the AACTA Trailblazer Award tonight from someone I have always looked up to and who also has paved the way for so many of us overseas,’ Hemsworth said in a statement.

‘The career I have enjoyed up until now has been so rewarding and I don’t take for granted the start the Australian screen industry gave me.’

Despite now calling Byron Bay home, Hemsworth is synonymous with Australians who have made their mark in Hollywood, having maintained a steady presence on big-budget sets throughout the past decade.

Since landing the role of the Asgardian God of Thunder in 2011, Chris has appeared in titles such as The Cabin in the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Rush, Bad Times at El Royale, Men In Black: International, Extraction.

He went on to star in Netflix’s Spiderhead, as well as appearing in eight Marvel titles within the Thor and Avenger franchises.

It comes after Chris announced he would be taking some time off from acting, after discovering he carried an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

‘Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet’,’ he said.

‘I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. And then you start talking about kids and family…’

The AACTA Awards ceremony will be broadcast on 10, at 7.30pm.
