Chris Hemsworth is putting his mind and body on the line – all in the name of science.

The Australian actor, 36, will star in a new National Geographic docuseries called Limitless, which will see him endure various challenges that will explore different ways to extend human’s life.

‘Basically, I was somehow convinced to volunteer myself as a human guinea pig and endure a series of mental and physical challenges across the globe, all for the sake of science,’ Chris said in a statement this weekend.

‘We’re hoping to shed some light on new ideas and emerging science with the focus on extending a healthy life span. Production starts soon, so wish me luck.’

Each episode will see Chris travel across the globe to explore six different techniques to prolong his life: regenerating damage, maximizing strength, building resilience, shocking the body, supercharging memory and confronting mortality.

A statement reads: ‘Hemsworth will meet leading longevity scientists who believe that the key to staying young lies in rooting out and reversing the ravages of time before they take hold, and learn secrets from superhumans who demonstrate the mind-blowing extent of human potential.’

‘In Limitless, Hemsworth will come face-to-face with his own mortality, testing ways to extend his healthy life in challenges that will stretch his physical and mental abilities.’

Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky and Jane Root will executive produce the series.

‘Limitless has the potential to improve people’s lives in simple, impactful ways, and we love Chris’ enthusiasm to be our tour guide,’ Darren said in a statement.

Meanwhile, National Geographic Global Television Networks president Courteney Monroe has praised ‘real-life superhero’ Chris, who famously played Thor in the Marvel franchise, for taking on the challenge.

‘We are so fortunate to have Chris Hemsworth at the center of this series and to tap into his genuine curiosity and real-life superhero powers to push his own personal limits,’ she said in a statement.
