Chris Rock on the final times he saw friend and SNL colleague Chris Farley alive

Chris Rock recalled ‘one of the last times’ he saw friend Chris Farley alive in an interview Tuesday.

The 56-year-old actor and comic, speaking with Esquire, recalled his final brush with Farley prior to his passing in December of 1997, in reacting to a picture that featured the two of them with fellow Saturday Night Live alums Adam Sandler and David Spade.

‘This looks like one of the last times I saw Chris alive,’ Rock said. ‘I would see him one more time when I did a gig in Chicago.’

The Fargo actor recalled how drugs had overtaken Farley’s life at that point.

‘We tried to hang out afterwards, but … I don’t know if you’ve ever really hung out with an addict,’ he said. ‘Towards the end, anything that isn’t the drug is a chore.’

The Everybody Hates Chris star recalled how he had a premonition about Farley’s fate.

‘I remember I was at his apartment,’ Rock continued. ‘He was showing me his apartment. I leave, I see him out the window, and I was like, “That’s probably the last time I’m going to see him” … I knew.’

Rock remembered the camaraderie he shared with his SNL colleagues during their intersecting stints on the NBC series.

‘Me, Sandler, Spade, and Farley – we shared an office at Saturday Night Live,’ Rock said. ‘We called it a dorm. We’re friends to this day. I love those guys.’

Farley died at the age of December 18, 1997 in his apartment in Chicago from a drug overdose, as his brother John found his body.
