Chrissy Teigen defends fan over IVF question on Instagram

Chrissy Teigen has kindly defended a fan who was criticized for asking if she got pregnant with her newborn son, Miles, through in vitro fertilization.

After the 32-year-old mom shared a heartwarming photo of her one-month-old son on Instagram Tuesday, a woman named Rachael took to the comments section to ask if she conceived Miles through IVF like she did with her now two-year-old daughter, Luna.

‘Yep, he was just on ice a smidge longer,’ Chrissy replied. ‘Science and the human body are beautiful.’

Chrissy’s response made the woman’s day, and she returned to the comments section to thank her.

‘The fact that you replied to me just made my life.’ Rachael said. ‘That’s awesome though! How lucky women are to have these opportunities.’

The conversation inspired other people to share their own experiences with IVF, but some criticized the woman for asking Chrissy such a personal question.

‘Do you really find it necessary to know that or ask that? And why? She’s a celebrity but that still does not give you the right,’ a woman named Sandra commented. ‘That was a total cringeworthy moment, tsk, tsk, tksk…’

Chrissy is never one to shy away from hiding her true feelings, and she was quick to assure the woman that she has no problem talking about how she conceived her children.

‘I wasn’t offended by it – people are just curious and I think hearing success stories gives people hope,’ she said. ‘I’m all for talking about IVF.’

The Lip Sync battle star’s honest response received a great deal of praise, especially from fans who have had their children through IVF or are currently struggling to conceive.

‘My hubby and I have been trying with no luck ‘the old fashioned’ way,’ one woman wrote. ‘I always feel so much better about our situation when I hear stories like yours, thank you for being so open about it.’

‘Yes to all of this, and to destigmatizing the process and the conversation around it,’ someone else added.

Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, have been candid about their fertility struggles, and it took her several rounds of IVF before she got pregnant with her daughter, Luna, who was born in 2016.

She told The Cut in April that she it was ‘devastating’ when her first round of IVF didn’t work, and she admitted to blaming herself.

‘You just look for anything to blame, especially yourself,’ she explained. ‘I think hearing stories is just really important. You realize there’s no right way to do it, or right way to react.

‘I don’t know. There’s no right way to do IVF. You just have to keep hoping that it will happen. It’s easy for some, and not for others. And that’s okay.’
