Chrissy Teigen is mom-shamed for taking three-year-old Luna to the dentist

Chrissy Teigen was mom-shamed after she shared a sweet video of her three-year-old daughter, Luna, at her first dentist appointment — with people claiming the young girl should’ve gone sooner.

The 33-year-old cooking guru and model shared an adorable video of Luna at her first dentist appointment. During the clip, Luna demonstrated to the dentist how she brushed her teeth on a stuffed dinosaur.

But this invited a slew of critical comments from people inquiring why Teigen did not take her daughter to the dentist when she was younger.

According to People, one commenter wrote: ‘What age do they start over there? My daughter started seeing a dentist at a yr old.’

But Teigen was quick to respond with her own quip against the person attempting to judge Luna’s age over it being her first trip.

‘Was waiting for this. U guys never fail me,’ the mother-of-two replied to the comment, which has since been deleted.

The commenter was not the only one to mention Luna’s age when it came to her going to her first dentist appointment.

Another person wrote: ‘First? They made us start at 6 months lol.’

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends for parents to take their children to the dentist by the age of one or within six months of their first tooth.

But opinions about this recommendation can vary depending on the dentist, as there were a number of dental hygienists commenting on Teigen’s photo with their own thoughts.

‘There really isn’t a need to go when they are one,’ one former dental assistant wrote. ‘They are just looking and making sure no dark spots on teeth and counting what has come in. As a parent we can just take a look and if we see something, then take them in.’

She continued: ‘I took my son for 1st time at 3 and he didn’t get a “cleaning” he got a fluoride treatment and they just looked around. Finally at 5, they did a little cleaning and polishing.’

Another parent explained how they were told to wait to take their child in because of the size of her mouth.

‘I took my daughter at 11 months cause she had 9 teeth,’ the parent explained. ‘They told me not to come back until she was 3 or 4 because her mouth was too small and there wasn’t much they could do besides a visual check. I guess it just depends.’

Teigen didn’t let the comments stop her from expressing how ‘proud’ she was in her ‘toons’ for going through with the first visit, as Luna appeared to be a very well-behaved patient while brushing the stuffed dinosaurs teeth.

The young girl sat on her grandmother Vilailuck Teigen’s, Teigen’s mom, lap while the dentist helped demonstrate how to brush teeth.

The dentist also made sure to confirm Luna was brushing both morning and night to keep her teeth in good shape.

Previously, Teigen has been shamed online for different instances including the state of Luna’s hair and when her son, Miles, wore helmets to help with the shape of his head.

But the model, who is known for her witty commentary on Twitter, never lets the internet trolls have the last say.
