Chrissy Teigen reveals the reason why she and husband John Legend named their baby daughter Esti

Chrissy Teigen shared the sweet meaning behind her three-month-old baby daughter Esti Maxine’s name.

The model, 37 – who shares three kids with husband John Legend, 44 – revealed the name was originally inspired by an Italian vacation, but coincidentally turned out to also have a family connection, during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

‘We were on vacation. We got married in Italy and I was looking up at the hotel and I kept seeing the Este of it, and then I was like, “I love the name Este,'” she shared.

‘I was just playing around with it and then we came up with Esti,’ the cookbook author said.

However, after the couple decided on the moniker, they discovered and even deeper connection. ‘John, after we named her Esti, learned that it was actually his great-grandmother’s name,’ she revealed. ‘I guess maybe it was Esther and then they turned it to Esti.’

Meanwhile John previously revealed that Esti’s middle name, Maxine, was also a nod to his family.

‘We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine. So, it’s a lot of my family in the name,’ he told E! News.

Chrissy also shared how Esti’s siblings – daughter Luna, six, and son Miles, four – are adjusting.

‘It’s weird because I thought they would either be very mad at her for just existing or they would want so much attention from me.’

‘But they actually love her so much and they want so much attention from me. So, it’s both. It has a lot to do with her, obviously, but they still shower her with love, every bath in the sink, they crowd around.’

Chrissy also took to Instagram on Sunday to share snaps from a fun-filled family day. 

In one photo John was pictured with Miles, who appeared to be eating ice cream. Another snap saw daughter Luna holding up a sketch drawing.

Chrissy also added in a video of herself as she showed off her flawless makeup.

Another clip saw their son during a baseball game. Lastly she shared a clip of Esti sneezing.

The model welcomed Esti with the Grammy-Award winning musician on January 13 via C-section. 

Teigen and Legend wed in 2013 after dating on/off for several years. They initially met in 2006 on the set of one of Legend’s music videos.

They welcomed their first child, Luna, in April 2016. Son Miles, four, arrived two years later in 2018.

Teigen fell pregnant for a third time in the summer of 2020, although she later had to undergo ‘a life-saving abortion.’

She then underwent IVF treatments and revealed in August 2022 that she was pregnant with a baby girl.

Legend recently opened up about his family life and told People that he is proud of his wife for being open about her fertility struggles.

‘I think Chrissy’s done a good job of destigmatizing some of these things that so many people go through in silence,’ he said.

The performer went on to express that he felt as if people should be more open about their experiences with IVF.

‘There are a lot of women and families that have fertility struggles, and I think no one should feel ashamed of needing some help sometimes’
