Christie Brinkley’s daughter to star in SI Swimsuit issue

The upcoming Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue will feature a model named Brinkley – but it’s not going to be Christie.

Sailor Brinkley Cook, the 19-year-old daughter of Christie and Peter Cook, is joining the swimsuit 2018 rookie class, which already includes fellow models Chase Carter and Robin Holzken.

She is the first daughter of a famous Sports Illustrated model mom to be selected as an official SI swimsuit model, and her mom helped break the news by interrupting a fake interview at the IMG headquarters in New York City.

‘She thinks she’s coming here today to do an interview for Fashion Week but she is in for the biggest surprise,’ Christie excitedly told the camera before sneaking up on her daughter.

A surprised Sailor couldn’t believe the news and even teared up as SI Swimsuit’s editor MJ Day handed her a swimsuit with her name on it.

‘I can’t even believe this is real,’ she said, adding that she thought she was doing an interview about her relationship with her mom.

‘You’re on your own now,’ the proud mom told her. ‘You’re out of my sandy footprints, and you are on your own!’

Christie appeared in the magazine eight times between 1975-2004 and nabbed three consecutive covers from 1979-1981, becoming the first model to do so.

Earlier this year, she was photographed with Sailor and her other daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, which she called a ‘full-circle’ experience.

Like her mom, Sailor definitely has no problem showing off her stunning figure, and often posts pictures in bathing suits on Instagram, but she’s also revealed that she wasn’t always so confident.

‘I’ve had issues with my body image since before I can even remember. I grew up not loving how I looked and felt held back because of it….My body and I have been through it all,’ she’s said on Instagram.

But after she added that she’s learned how to accept her body: ‘I now have grown to know that my body is worthy of so many great things. I don’t need to be a size 0 to believe in myself.

‘My body carries me each and every day, it holds what makes me healthy and strong, it bends and shakes it runs and it CHANGES. That is okay, and that is beautiful.’

And the thinks she’s ready to take on the challenge of appearing in the pages of one of the most coveted magazine issues.

‘Sailor translates so well off the printed page — she takes beautiful pictures but that’s only one of the countless things she’s good at.

‘Much like her mom, she embodies everything it means to be an SI Swimsuit model, but she’s doing it in a way that is very much her own,; said editor MJ.
