Shoppers at Myer were shocked to find the popular department store had put up their Christmas decorations four months early.

A Perth shopper found the decorations up in the city’s Myer store and shared the picture to Reddit on Thursday.

‘Christmas decorations going up in city Myer yesterday. It’s still August right?’ the shopper asked the thread.

Shoppers began to ruthlessly mock the retail giant, with many claiming it was too early to start displaying Christmas decorations.

‘The earlier this gets – The more it takes out the thrill of Chrissie,’ another noted. 

‘Hell with Coles doing hot cross buns all year round, this shouldn’t surprise me really,’ a third wrote. 

Some social media users saw the funny side.

‘Perhaps yesterday’s hottest ever winter day has them confused,’ one said.  

‘We have not started planning Christmas for my team. Dang. We better get onto that,’ another noted.

A Myer spokesperson said the retail giant will commence selling some of its Christmas range from mid-September, the same as previous years.

‘This responds to customer demand with many shoppers planning ahead and wanting the convenience of being able to to purchase their decorations ahead of the busy Christmas period,’ the spokesperson said.

‘Myer is the destination for everything Christmas and we look forward to showcasing our full Christmas offering including our Giftorium and Santaland later in the year.’
