The New York Post first reported on Schumer’s cheesecake obsession after analyzing filings of the New York senator’s PAC, Friends of Schumer,.

They showed the Brooklyn restaurant was paid for ‘supporter acknowledgments’ in amounts ranging from $46 to $516.45. In total, $8,638.85 was spent at the restaurant during the seven-year period.

Schumer proudly acknowledged the spending, saying: ‘I give them as gifts. I use them for bets, you know when someone wants to bet something, you know for a Brooklyn thing versus a Wisconsin thing.’

Schumer was referring to a bet he had with Sen. Herb Kohl on a 2008 NFC championship game between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers. The Giants won 23-20 and Schumer won a block of Wisconsin cheddar.

Holding up a copy of the New York Post story, Schumer said he had been a fan of the cheesecake restaurant since he was a boy and added: ‘So I say to the New York Post and others, guilty as charged.

‘I love Junior’s cheesecake. It’s the best cheesecake in the world. It’s my guilty pleasure.’

Angelo Roefaro, Schumer’s press secretary, told CNN that the senator ‘likes any flavor, but plain allows one to really savor that Junior’s recipe.’

Schumer’s office told CNN that the money used to pay for the cheesecakes did not come from taxpayers.

Roefaro added to The Post: ‘No matter how ya slice it, Chuck is proud of his years of support for the Downtown Brooklyn institution that is Junior’s Cheesecake.’

The restaurant, which has proclaimed itself ‘The World’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake,’ was founded in 1950.

When asked about Schumer’s spending at his family’s restaurant, owner Alan Rosen said: ‘Totally news to me. But I am appreciative.’
