‘He was devastated’: Claims Peter Stefanovic wants to start an ‘entertainment company’ after being axed from Nine and ‘begged’ Karl to join the business… but was rejected by his brother

Axed Today Weekend star Peter Stefanovic officially exited Channel Nine last Tuesday, claiming that he was leaving the network to ‘explore new opportunities’.

And according to New Idea magazine, starting an ‘entertainment company’ is part of Peter’s come-back career plan.

The publication claimed on Monday that Peter ‘begged’ Karl to promise he would join the business, but his brother, who was dumped from the Today show last Wednesday, rejected his offer.

Brothers in business? New Idea has claimed Peter Stefanovic wants to start an ‘entertainment company’ after being axed from Nine and ‘begged’ his brother Karl to join the business

‘Hoping they could make a pact and leave the network together, knowing only too well it was just a matter of time before he was shown the door, Pete was devastated when Karl turned him down,’ New Idea claimed.

A ‘friend’ of the brothers also reportedly told New Idea: ‘Pete knows with Karl’s backing and all of his famous and high-profile contacts it would be better with him involved in the business.’

Karl reportedly rejected the offer to continue working with Nine, hosting his documentary-style show This Time Next Year, the magazine claimed.

If Peter does venture into the world of entertainment business, he may find a helping hand in Today entertainment reporter, Richard Wilkins.

Richard, who has enjoyed a career on screens for over three decades, will now be appearing in second-tier show Today Extra after being replaced by former Triple J newsreader Brooke Boney on the Today show.

However, Nine says Brooke ‘will work closely’ with Richard in the role.

‘I’m really thrilled to be joining the team and so excited to be working alongside Richard Wilkins,’ Brooke said in a statement.

‘He’s such a legend in the business,’ she continued, before adding that she used to watch Richard on Today when she was a young girl growing up.’

‘It’s such an exciting time to be joining Nine and I am looking forward to learning from everyone on the Today team,’ she concluded.
