The 35-year-old former Doctor Who star was all bundled up against the November chill in a fur-lined bomber jacket, rocking a Burberry-style scarf.

Matt told Radio 2 host Chris Evans that the upcoming second series of The Crown will be even more lavish than the first, after it became Netflix’s most expensive series to date.

He said: ‘It’s got great scale to it. That’s one of the virtues of the show, it’s got great ambition and great scale. There’s a lot of extras as well which is a tell-tale sign of a film set.’

Claire added: ‘A lot of the people who work on a series have worked on films in the past, so it feels like a film, so there’s lots of re-shoots. They keep going until they get it right.’

Matt went onto discuss the factual accuracy of the series, which will see Elizabeth and Philip deal with a marital crisis.

Matt said: ‘There are facts in there. There are key facts that [creator Peter Morgan] sort of fictionalises.

‘For example, Philip did go to Portugal for five months, and he did wear a tie with red hearts and we imagine what led to that happening.’

Claire added: ‘[Peter] Has this amazing ability of taking all these different characters and then imagining what it would be like for them to have a conversation.’
