Classic Kate and contoured Meghan! We look at how different their make up palettes are

Meghan and Kate stunned with their very different make-up styles as they attended a reception in the White Drawing room at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The Duchess of Sussex, 37, chose a radiant contoured look with a bronzed glow and smoky eyes, while the Duchess of Cambridge, also 37, opted for a more classic style which featured rose pink blusher and delicate eye make-up.

The stylish royals were attending a reception hosted by the Queen to mark the 50th anniversary of her son Charles’ investiture as Prince of Wales.

Award-winning make-up artist Stacey Whittaker said: ‘Meghan teamed her £895 Amanda Wakeley coat and a gold floral embellished dress with a bronzed and soft contoured look. While Kate always has a classic make up style and sticks to the royal rule book whenever she delves into her make-up bag.’

Meanwhile Kate plumped for a ‘classic English rose look’ with a sand washed pink lip, delicate eye make up and statement liner with a demure flick

MEGHAN’S LOOK

According to the expert, the secret to Meghan’s distinct look is a primer.

‘Meghan’s look is bronzed and golden and the finish is dewy, a complexion enhancer like the Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Primer may have been used under her foundation,’ she said.

‘The Duchess seems to be opting for a sheer skin coverage that allows her freckles to come through adding to the natural look. Meghan’s go-to is Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, which adds to the Meghan glow.’

And she revealed that the mother-to-be’s contoured style has been enhanced by a touch of blusher too.

‘It has peach undertones applied with a large fluffy brush as there are no harsh lines,’ she said.

Meghan, who is due to give birth late April, also wore a nude lip and styled her hair in its signature relaxed bun – something which make-up artist Stacey said gives her a very feminine and pretty look.

‘Her skin is dewy and fresh and her lips are painted in a muted nude lipstick and ties in beautifully with her eye makeup and hair,’ she explained. ‘Her eye brows are very defined, like Kate’s, but that’s where the similarities end when it comes to their look.’

And a second make-up artist, Lisa Little, agreed her smoky eye-shadow was a stark contrast to Kate’s more delicate eye.

She said: ‘Meghan uses eyeliner, mostly on the upper lid, which defines them and slightly elongates them giving her the feline eye look.’

‘She loves Chanel Style Yeux waterproof eyeliner and swipes it on her upper lash line and waterline for an extra bit of definition.’

KATE’S LOOK

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a high neck mint-coloured blouse dress at the Palace and teamed it with a ‘polished look’.

‘Kate always has a classic make up style, sticking to the royal rule book, when she delves into her make up bag,’ Stacey said.

‘Her skin is polished and perfected with a touch of blusher applied just on the apples of her cheeks to give a fresh feel to her face.’

And the make up expert believes the blusher also gives the Duchess ‘English rose’ inspired skin.

‘Her overall look is quite traditional and this is reflected in her fresh faced look which showcases a pop of rosy pink blusher and delicate soft eye makeup which frame her face beautifully,’ she said.

Like Meghan, Kate has well defined eyebrows, Lisa added: ‘Kate likes to have well groomed eyebrows, which she probably uses a powder and a gel to set.

‘Kate also has opted for her statement liner with a demure flick to add that drama and glamour to the eyes without using too much product.’

While Lisa said about her lip: ‘Kate’s sand washed pink lip with a clear lip-gloss really compliments her English rose look.

‘The Bobbi Brown lipstick, which is said to be her favourite creates long-lasting full coverage colour required when you’re a royal.’
