Cleanse that can help you lose half a stone in a week

She’s raking in £500K a year after creating her own weight loss plan from the elements of different diets that worked for her and now Terri Ann Nunns has devised a new seven-day cleanse for people in need of a quick way to shed the pounds.

The mother-of-three from Doncaster lost seven stone on her own regime and now the website for TerriAnn’s 123 Diet Plan has more than 53,000 members.

Recently, the entrepreneur added the TerriAnn 7 Day Cleanse, an menu plan of less than 1,000 calories a day combined with exercise, that claims to help you shed more than half a stone in a week.

Since launching, the cleanse has had more than 50,000 likes on Facebook with hundreds of people reporting a weight loss of 7lbs in just seven days.

The success of TerriAnn’s regimes is all the more remarkable as she has no qualifications or background in nutritional science – but do her programmes really work?

Writer Gina Clarke, 30, from Hampshire, a size 14 to 16 and weighing 13 st 3 lbs, put the 7 Day Cleanse to the test to find out if you can really slim down thanks to a plan invented by an ordinary mother-of-three.

I’ve always been a comfortable size 14-16 but after two kids the weight just kept creeping on, so when I was offered the chance to lose a dress size in a week I jumped at it.

The TerriAnn 7-day cleanse diet suggested I could lose 7lbs by eating six small meals a day, alongside exercise.

Working at a desk all day, exercise is my nemesis. If I’ve had a good day I can walk the two mile round trip to pick up my kids from school. But more often than not the only running I do is running for the car, late again.

Size: 14-16

As my clothes started to feel tight and I started creeping up to that last peg in the shop, a size 18, I was determined to kick start a new me.

What better way than a cleanse with minimal exercise. I couldn’t wait to give it a go.

I’m not one to follow home made diets but 100,000 people are regularly using the TerriAnn plan and with such a large following and for only a week, I figured it couldn’t hurt to give it a go.

Typically, my day would start with a bowl of cereal such as Shreddies, a ham sandwich with a packet of crisps for lunch, fruit with the kids when they came home from school for a snack and then a dinner of fajitas or curry as a family.

A glass of wine and some popcorn in the evening was a regular occurrence also.

When the pack arrived and I saw the type of ingredients involved, I realised that this cleanse meant business. I’d be eating less than 1,000 calories a day with low fat yoghurt, chicken and steak a staple of the diet.

To monitor how effective my exercise was, I used the Polar M430 GPS running watch with wrist-based heart rate tracking.

Its active guide shows you how active you’ve been during the day and gives practical advice for reaching your daily goal.

The M430 also helps with tracking calories through exercise, and lets you know exactly how many calories you have burned based on your weight, height, age, gender, individual heart rate and how hard you are working.

The plan involves eating small meals, consisting mainly of protein and vegetables, with very few carbs. Gina estimated she was eating fewer than 1,000 calories a day

DAY ONE

I felt spurred on to make a success of this diet – for too long I’d been uncomfortable in my clothes and I wanted to feel better.

But as I measured out my three tbsp of fat free yoghurt and 6 blueberries, my heart sank. The portions were incredibly small and it seemed a long time before I could finally tuck in to my mid-morning snack, two slices of ham.

Still, I filled my morning with work and took a break to walk 1.3miles down the hill to the Post Office, tracking my heart rate and calorie counter along the way.

When I could, I jogged but it I couldn’t keep it up on the way back and stuck to a steady walk.

I was impressed that the 30-minute session burned over 200 calories and was deemed ‘reasonable’ by my app. I’ll take that!

At dinner, I tucked in to my chicken with two pieces of steamed broccoli like a starving woman possessed and eyed up the kid’s fish fingers like they were the tastiest thing in the world.

Hangry, I went to bed shortly afterwards to keep my growling tummy at bay.

DAY TWO

Waking up I already felt lighter, but resisted the urge to jump on the scales.

I took the kids to school before cooking my one egg omelette, which is almost impossible to make. One egg is far too thin and stuck to the pan. Then I burned the accompanying sausages, so I substituted a slice of ham instead.

It got a lot better at lunch when I tucked in to a delightful poached salmon with salad.

I rarely eat fish so really enjoyed it even if I could smell it all afternoon while working.

I also got to have a small cup of popcorn while winding down with the kids before bed.

My daughter looked me with amazement when I handed her the big bowl and instead sat down with her Mickey Mouse cup to eat my portion but she didn’t complain.

DAY THREE

Back to the fat free yoghurt and blueberries this morning, they’re becoming quite a welcome friend in the morning and they suit my lifestyle rather than cooking eggs and sausages.

I’m getting used to my protein snacks of a boiled egg or a few slices of ham and without caffeine my taste buds are changing. I love the flavour of the lemon with hot water and would take a green tea over a black coffee any day.

Today I even had steak for tea, things are looking up.

I took the kids swimming in the afternoon and tracked my calorie count, I’ve been following the exercise plan which includes planks and stretches and already my body feels more supple in the water. Not to mention that 30 minutes of swimming burns 141 calories.

Before bed I got to enjoy 2 squares of 70 per cent dark chocolate and even though I’m not usually a fan it really did taste all the sweeter after fasting the previous two days. It was a little piece of heaven.

Despite not being a fan of dark chocolate, Gina found herself enjoying the more bitter flavour as he tastebuds adjusted

DAY FOUR

I’m stuck for sausages as I burnt them all on day two so I went back to my yoghurt and blueberries.

Today is the first day that I don’t feel starving, everything feels like I can just about manage it and I’m pleased to say I’ve lost a few pounds already.

I try on a dress I’ve not worn in a few years and find myself loving my new silhouette.

With a steak salad in my belly I finish work early and decide to jog to pick the kids up from school.

The two mile journey burns 184 calories and puts me in a great mood to cook a chicken dinner complete with baked sweet potatoes.

I’ve never baked a sweet potato before but it was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s because my sense of smell has changed but I’m an absolute convert to this diet and feeling great.

DAY FIVE

I’m enjoying my lemon and hot water in a morning now and I grabbed some more sausages yesterday so I could make a breakfast of poached egg and two sausages.

It feels almost decadent compared to the fat free yoghurt and blueberries I’m used to eating.

This time I have to remind myself to eat a few hours later and before I know it, it’s lunchtime again.

I can’t believe just a few days ago I was clock watching for meal times and now I’m still full from breakfast. The protein is definitely working.

Another piece of salmon for dinner and I enjoy my two small squares of dark chocolate before bed time.

Gina enjoyed snacks such as apple and peanut butter

DAY SIX

Today is Saturday and the kids want to take me out for breakfast. It’s difficult to be out with the family and still keep on track with the diet, so I choose a breakfast buffet and tuck in to sausages and eggs but leave half of what’s on my plate. I’m too full.

We go on a family adventure with the kids bikes and end up hiking with children and bikes on our shoulders along a lot of the route. Two hours later I’ve burnt 415 calories and walked almost 3 miles.

I get back home to cook another chicken dinner then take the dog for a walk before settling down for another green tea. Who is this person?

DAY SEVEN

It’s the final day and I’m actually quite sad. I feel that although my diet has been restricted my body has welcomed it and I can see that I’ve lost 5 lbs.

I’m sure if I was in better shape and could have run the 3km expected in the exercise routine then maybe I would have lost more, but honestly for the first few days I felt like I didn’t have the energy.

AFTER THE CLEANSE

1.5lb down

1 inch off hips

1 inch off thighs

1 inch off arms

It’s amazing how quickly your body adjusts to something like this. I could feel my stomach shrinking and my taste buds changing all within the span of a week, not to mention my fitness improving.

I would definitely do this cleanse again if I had a big occasion coming up and wanted to drop a few pounds or if I felt that my clothes were getting too snug. Thankfully they all fit a lot better now.

Be prepared to feel hungry at the start, but do stick with it if you’re wanting to see results.

The thing that really made it for me was the watch. I could see how many calories I was using, and was spurred on to hit those 10,000 steps a day and one day I hit 20,000..

Plus as I sit at a desk it gave me a little nudge when I’ve been inactive for too long. I would really recommend it.
