A Seattle man has died after falling from Mount Stuart as he descended.

Varun Sadavarte, 32, was killed Sunday after falling several hundred feet down a steep slope and landing on rocks.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office says Sadavarte was climbing with a friend, who had called for help just before noon.

The friend told authorities that Sadavarte had climbed up but then lost his footing while climbing down toward the Cascadian Couloir.

Other climbers in the area scrambled to help Sadavarte – who had been descending using an ice pick – but he was unresponsive.

Their elevation was at about 8,900 feet, which required a helicopter capable of hoisting.

A Navy Blackhawk helicopter from the Whidbey Island Naval Airbase got to the scene within three hours.

The friend was also rescued from the sixth highest mountain in Washington state.

According to Sadavarte’s social media he was an avid rock-climber and a lover for the great outdoors.

He had posted photos while climbing some of Washington State’s highest peaks including Camp Muir and Mount Erie.

Just last week had  snapped a photo from behind his bicycle with the caption: ’15 miles and 3000 ft elevation gain. Biked from Mt. Rainier National Park entrance to Paradise.’
