Coach, 25, arrested for improper relationship with a student in TX

A former coach and teacher in Texas told local authorities that ‘he needed to be arrested’ before he was charged with having a relationship with a female student.

Jacob Vincent Badget, 25, was charged with improper relationship between educator and student after he had been detained by Longview police, earlier on Thursday.

The Longview native coached sports at both Spring Hill High School and Spring Hill Junior High. Additionally, he taught physical education at the school.

Badgett had gone to confess to his athletic director at the district on Wednesday, adding that he needed to ‘call 911’ and ‘had an explicit relationship with a student, the Longview News Journal reported.

The educator resigned on Wednesday, according to SHISD Superintendent Steven Snell

‘Badgett turned around and put his hands behind his back as if to have handcuffs put on’ when a resource officer attended the meeting between Snell, Badgett and the athletic director, according to the arrest warrant.

He would go on and tell ‘Snell that he was a “monster” and a “predator” and that ‘everyone knows,’” the documents add.

The alleged victim shared with investigating officers that ‘she had a “crush” on Badgett but that she would never “cross the line” with a teacher.’

She did add, however, that she ‘wouldn’t tell’ if she actually had because then the former educator would have gotten in trouble.

The student shared that she texted privately with Badgett and was known for ‘staying around’ the school after hours, even when there was no practice.

And while Badgett would not confirm the student’s identity, initially, he eventually shared the details with Snell, the warrant states.

‘Snell said that Badgett had told him that he had gotten careless with emails and text messages,’ the warrant adds. ‘Snell also indicated that Badgett said that his son would grow up without a father because he is in jail, but Snell told (the officer) that Snell is unaware of any children that Badgett currently has.’

Investigators are going through Badgett’s apartment on Thursday to look for any evidence on laptops, Ipad as well as items that can be screened for ‘evidence of sexual activity, sexual intercourse or sexual contact.’

He was released from jail on Thursday after coughing up a  $50,000 bond.
