Singer Cody Simpson, 25, reveals he was ‘bedridden’ after catching Covid-19: ‘I thought I was going to die’

Cody Simpson, 25, has revealed he thought he was going to die from covid, in a candid interview with The Daily Telegraph.  

The Olympic hopeful detailed his battle with the dreaded virus, saying that it hit him ‘really hard’ during training.  

‘It hit me really hard – I was bedridden,’ Cody said. The singer then added: ‘I thought I was going to die. It was so bad.’

Cody explained he was worried the virus would permanently damage his lungs which would hurt his chances at Paris, 2024. 

However, he soon got back to training in the pool.  

‘That was tough but I feel I’ve come out of the other side and been able to get a really good block of training in,’ he said.

Cody was never public about his battle with covid. However, he did speak out against lockdowns in August last year. 

‘Making the most of Aussie lockdown. We can’t train at our pool all week,’ he wrote next to a photo of himself posing at the beach. 

‘But more importantly most people have had to shut their businesses,’ he added.

‘It’s a curious and complex argument but I hope the world can open again soon and we can go back to normal life.’

The Gold Coast native, who has a reported net worth of $6million, suggested that government officials who order lockdowns aren’t suffering like everyday Australians.

‘If politicians and bureaucrats had to sacrifice their salaries or take pay cuts during lockdowns, I wonder how long they’d last? Food for thought,’ he asked.

Cody went on to say ‘the best armour we have is a healthy lifestyle and sustainable decision making’.

He also suggested ‘fear’ was being used as a ‘weapon’ to destroy ‘freedom’, and urged his followers to ‘turn off the news and go outside!’

Cody says he is training in the pool nine times per week up to two hours a day while doing three intense weight sessions for 90 minutes each.
