  • Covington – picked as back-up at UFC 286 – slammed Anik for impartiality

UFC star Colby Covington has let rip at commentator Jon Anik in a bizarre and chilling rant after he sided with his rival Belal Muhammad.

The controversial American made a shock appearance at UFC 286 in London after he was chosen as the back-up for Leon Edwards and Karamu Usman’s main event over Muhammad, who he has shared a feud with of late, and Anik expressed his surprise that the latter was not given a chance instead.

Anik had tweeted endorsing his support for Muhammad to be the alternate, saying: ‘Understand acutely why Colby Covington was the back-up but hard not to feel for @bullyb170! 9-fight unbeaten streak. Hasn’t lost in 4-plus years. Just KO’d a previously undefeated fighter. The man deserves his respect and I don’t say that b/c he hosts a podcast w/ my twin bro.’

Covington embarked on an X-rated rant after he took exception to his support of Muhammad – who has goaded his rival in recent weeks, calling him a coward and insisting the 35-year-old has rejected a chance to fight him.

‘Chaos’ had also accused his rival Muhammad of racism after claiming he had got a title shot because he was white – and he tore into Anik for being his ‘cheerleader’.

”You’re not talking Belal, you’re talking the racist,’ Covington told MMAFighting.

‘That guy is so beyond racist, like, everything he does is racist, the guy’s a freaking joke. He’s saying I’m in this position because of my skin color, because I’m white? That’s clear racism.

‘And you know who’s hanging out and associating with that racist? Jon Anik. Jon Anik, you know, supports that racism. He’s [Anik] supposed to be impartial, he’s supposed to have that headset, he’s supposed to be an interviewer, he’s supposed to remain impartial… You want to be a cheerleader? Put down the headset, pick up the pom-poms, go on the side, and be a cheerleader.’

Covington then made a despicable threat to Anik, warning him that he had ‘poked the bear’.

‘You wanted to lick my f***ing balls in London, ‘Oh Colby this’, but then you wanna go back behind the stage and cheerlead for a racist.

‘I don’t want your kids to grow up without a dad, just realize you live in Boca [Raton], I live in Miami motherf***er, you’re not too far from me, so you better shut your f***ing mouth. You poke the bear, now you get the bear comes after you.’

It comes after the latest back and forth spat between the pair that saw Muhammad share screenshots proving his rival turned down a fight at UFC 286.

On Friday afternoon, shortly after Covington had taken to the stage in London, Muhammad shared the text with the caption: ‘He turns down a fight on the same card so he can weigh in and not have to fight’.

The text message, to his nutritionist and chef Ian Larios, said: ‘Could b on the London card’ with a set of emojis afterwards.

Larios replied: ‘Whattt. Oh s***. Against who’. ‘Colby’, Muhammad replied.

After another response from Larios, Muhammad said: ‘Just waiting on confirmation if I am can u come out to Chicago 4 weeks out’.

The text messages were dated on January 25th, suggesting that the fight had been in the work for some months.
